A unique project for a significant country farmhouse in the heart of the Cotswolds. Working on a monolithic scale and imbuing an ultra-contemporary aesthetic within the raw landscape, HiAvens is a residential project that is only seen a handful of times a century, re-defining rural modern living and how we think about building in the countryside.

Sitting atop an ironstone escarpment on the site of a former farmyard, the single storey house is embedded into the landscape with panoramic views across the Cotswold hills. We were brought on board to lead the interior architecture and design, working alongside exterior architects BPN Architects and landscape architect Rosebank.

HiAvens channels the inherent values of a traditional farmhouse: grounded, simple, honest and robust. Yet, it does so at a dramatic scale and with an uncompromising commitment to material quality.

A key influence on the project is the ironstone seam that runs through the area. The ironstone’s rich, burnt orange hue informed both the palette and conceptual grounding of the project. The concrete walls, externally and internally, reflect this earthen tone, helping the building to settle naturally into its landscape.
